Hibernation Celebration

Today was such an AWESOME day!!

In honor of Punxsutawney Phil waking up from his hibernation and making his annual weather prediction on Sunday, we had a hibernation celebration!

Our morning started out with an amazing assembly sponsored by our PTA.  An African Drum and Dance group came to perform and teach us a little about where they were from.  We learned a few African words, a few facts, and a lot of dance moves!

They even got the audience involved!

It was a great wake up call for the groundhog!!

When we got back to our room, we invited Mrs. Hayes' class over to celebrate with us.

First we let out a loud yaawwwwnnnnn and streeeeeetch...

Then we created our own groundhog cookie snack...

And gobbled them up with some hot cocoa!

Later we used our adding and subtracting skills to make our very own groundhogs!

We can't  wait to see what the groundhog will predict on Sunday!

Martin Luther King Jr.

We have been learning a lot about Martin Luther King Jr. and his impact on our society. We learned that Dr. King's dream was that all people would be treated equally regardless of their differences. Here our some of our dreams!

It's Time To Celebrate!

Today was a day full of celebrations!
We kicked off this morning by celebrating all of our writing successes this quarter!  Mrs. Hayes and Mrs. Cintron's class joined us and we got into small groups to read our teaching books to each other. Everyone's books were so great!  We have experts on all different topics in our classes!

After we shared our teaching books, we shared a fun snack!  In our groups we made our own hungry caterpillars out of Rolos and M&Ms!  They turned out so cute... but that didn't stop us from eating them up! YUM!

After our writing celebration, we were on our way to Playhouse Square to see The Very Hungry Caterpillar and other Eric Carle Favorites!

We couldn't wait for it to start!

The performance was outstanding!!

After the show, the performers came out to answer questions and showed us some of the puppets they used!

Eric Carle: Our Latest Inspiration

We spent this week preparing for our field trip to see The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Favorites at Playhouse Square next week by reading Eric Carle's wonderful collection of books!  We love reading them and think the illustrations are fantastic!

We were so inspired by his technique for illustrating his books that we wanted to give it a try!

Check out the characters we created!  We think they could be the stars in the next Eric Carle book!
