1st Grade Has Begun!

First grade is off and running!

We had a busy and fun first week!  We learned a lot about Eric Litwin and James Dean, the author and illustrator of the Pete the Cat books.  Pete the Cat even took us on a tour of our new building!

We got to see some of our old friends, and even made some new ones!

We've already started reviewing our math and reading skills!

We can't wait to see what the rest of the year has in store!

Another Week Done... Only 1 More To Go!

Last week was another fun-filled, very busy week!

We started with a walk to the library to sign up for the summer reading club! Their theme this year is camping, it looks so fun! Make sure to take a weekly trip to the library so you can earn prizes for reading!

Later, we were treated with performances from the Harding Middle Schools bands, choirs, & orchestras!  They were phenomenal!

Our week ended with spirit day! We made stylish, and spirited glasses for the occasion!

The kindergarteners performed for us...

and Mrs. Muth pulled the grand prize winners for our principal bucks!

After that, Mrs. Cintron's class invited us to a Kevin Henkes inspired puppet show! Her students wrote their own stories and acted them out using the mouse character puppets! They were great!

Sadly, Friday was also Lela's last day at Grant!  Of course, we said goodbye with a hug line!

We will miss you, Lela!

It's hard to believe that next week is our last week as 1st graders!  We have so many activities to pack into our last 4 days!

Grant Celebration Week part 2

Our week of fun continued with a cookout on Wednesday, thanks to PTA and Lakewood Kiwanis!

Thursday, we had our class walk to Malley's to wrap up our economics unit! Yum!

Today was our Field Day at Kauffman Park!  Thanks to all the hard work of Mrs. Lach and the volunteers, we had so much fun!!

This was a fun and crazy week! I can't believe we only have 2 weeks left in 1st grade!!

Grant School: Past, Present, Future

We have spent this week working on a video project exploring the past, present, and future of Grant School.

This was a 100% student produced video! They worked in groups to plan, record, and edit until we got our final product!

Thank you to the wonderful parent volunteers who helped facilitate the groups of students!

You can check out our video here

Please forgive our soft voices and shaky camera work!

Grant Celebration Week part 1

I was going to wait until Friday to post all about our week... but there is just so much going on, I couldn't wait that long!

Since our beloved Grant School is closing for 2 years in order to be rebuilt, we have been celebrating the school and all our memories this week!

Monday we got to leave our handprints with Grant!  We painted our hands and put our prints throughout the hallway!  We even made a Grant School banner that we are going to take with us to our temporary school next year!  This way we will always have a part of Grant with us!

Tuesday, we left our mark on Grant with chalk!  We made pictures and wrote words all over the sidewalk in front of the building!

Then we hugged the building and sang songs!

And finally, we celebrated all our wonderful volunteers at the volunteer tea with a little song!

It has been a great week so far and I'm sure it will just keep getting better!
