Pilgrims and Turkeys!

Last week was another super fun week in first grade!

On Monday, our guest from the Oldest Stone House was back! This time she brought a trunk full of toys and games that kids played with long ago.  She even let us play with them!  It was so awesome to see how some of their toys were similar to toys today and how some were so different!

On Tuesday, Mrs. Chanter helped us create a new movie using the green screen!  In this movie we are teaching all we know about how life long ago was different from life today.

Later that day, the general store was finally open and we were able to spend the wampum we had been earning for our good behavior over the last couple weeks!  We each made up and wrote our own recipes for a very special turkey snack, and then we bought supplies to make our snacks from the general store!  Our snacks were all unique and delicious! We used our leftover wampum to make necklaces that we could wear home!

We had so much fun learning about life long ago and celebrating Thanksgiving!

Honoring Veterans

Today we learned all about veterans and why we celebrate Veteran's Day.

We discovered that many of us have family members and friends that have served or are currently serving in the military!

Mrs. Katona brought in some artifacts from her husband who is a Marine to share with our class. She even let us try them on!

We also created a class book thanking veterans for all they do!  We presented this to our own Grant veteran, Mr. Gregory!

Mrs. Revy helped us to make 2 American flags with our handprints!  We will hang one up at school and will give one to Mr. Katona to hang up at home!

We made a thank you video to our veterans that we will be posting soon!  Check back later this week!

Living Long Ago

Today, we had a special visitor from the Lakewood Historical Society come into our classroom to let us experience first hand how kids lived long ago!  It was incredible!

We made our own blueberry ink and wrote with quills, just like people did before pens!

We wrote with slates and used wool as erasers! This was nothing like our dry erase boards!

We even tried out some of the punishments that teachers would use on kids at school! We are really glad teachers don't still use these today!!

Take a look at this slideshow of all our pictures from our fun morning!

November Fun!

We had such a busy week in 1st grade!

Monday started with our field trip to the Oldest Stone House. You can read all about our awesome field trip here.

We played a bunch of math games to review all we know about place value.  Ask us about it, we are experts!

One of the STAR block groups finished their projects all about the Titanic and presented their information to one another.

On Thursday we supported our Browns by wearing orange and brown... which we know contributed to their big win!!

Friday was a big day! We had a PIZZA PARTY for all the 1st graders that had 100% completion of their reading log for the 1st quarter.  WE LOVE READING! And we love pizza!

We also made these adorable place value turkeys! Gobble, gobble!

And celebrated Daniel's birthday!

We can't wait to see what next week will bring!
